Job description

The Patient Safety Commissioner for Scotland’s role is to advocate for the systematic improvement in the safety of health care and to promote the importance of the views of patients and other members of the public in relation to the safety of health care.

This is a new high-profile appointment. We are looking for a talented individual who has drive, integrity, credibility, resilience and excellent communication skills to be the inaugural Patient Safety Commissioner for Scotland.

We would welcome applications from those working in academia, the legal profession (e.g those doing medical negligence) and NHS Primary Care.

The appointment is for a fixed term of up to 8 years, attracts a starting salary of £89,685 and is pensionable through the Civil Service Pension Schemes.

What will you do as an Account Manager?

As part of the Workplace & Corporate Engagement team, you will play a pivotal role in managing partnerships within the private sector. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Workplace Engagement, you will focus on account management and client stewardship, ensuring strong relationships and sustained financial and non-financial contributions from SAMH’s private sector partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Account Management: Strengthen relationships with existing private sector partners through proactive and tailored stewardship. Deliver meaningful updates, demonstrate measurable impact, and secure multi-year commitments to foster sustained partnerships.
  • Engagement: Manage incoming enquiries strategically while identifying and pursuing new business development opportunities. Seek growth areas within current partnerships, including increased financial support.
  • Enquiry Management and Business Development: Creating a clear and responsive approach to partner engagement, identifying potential areas for growth within existing relationships. This includes exploring opportunities for partners to increase their financial support or collaborate on multi-year agreements that ensure ongoing contributions and mutual success.
  • Development: Collaborate with the team to create bespoke packages and develop innovative projects that appeal to partners, securing long-term income stability.
  • Delivery: Ensure seamless delivery of services, building trust and laying the foundation for future collaboration and increased contributions.

What does SAMH need from you?

Experience:

  • Demonstrable success in account managing mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding income or performance targets.
  • Strong experience in presenting and communicating with diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising principles and codes of practice, with an awareness of current trends in the fundraising environment.
  • Proficiency in using CRMs/databases to maintain and monitor data. (Desirable)
  • Familiarity with mental health services and the wider charity landscape in Scotland. (Desirable)

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of current legislation, policies and issues affecting fundraising and the charity sector including GDPR.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including confidence in public speaking/presentations and report writing.
  • Competence in using CRM systems and databases to manage donor information and track progress. (Desirable)

Scotland’s Hospices Together is a partnership of independent hospices. Each hospice is a registered charity in its own right, delivering end-of-life care services and raising funds in their community. By undertaking collaborative fundraising under the umbrella of Scotland’s Hospices Together we aim to reach a national audience not accessible to individual partners.

The National Corporate Fundraising Lead

This is a new post, responsible for the development and delivery of national Scottish corporate campaigns for the benefit of the members of Scotland’s Hospices Together.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Securing vital income from national Scottish corporate fundraising partnerships to fund the work of independent hospices. Year one target of £100,000 rising to at least £250,000 by the end of year three.
  • Developing a compelling case for support for Scotland’s Hospices Together which is specifically targeted at businesses in Scotland.
  • Leading on the development of brand assets, website and social media presence for Scotland’s Hospices Together, with a budget to do so.
  • Researching and identifying potential corporate partners and preparing a plan and pipeline for applications and proactive approaches.
  • Leading on the delivery of pitches, applications and approaches across Scotland.
  • Acting as an ambassador for Scotland’s Hospices Together members, at all times representing the best interests of the members, and ultimately the patients and families we support.
  • Working across all members to negotiate and coordinate involvement in all relevant campaigns, pitches, applications and activity.
  • On appointment we will agree a series of key performance indicators including number of applications and pitches made and the level of income generated, by which success will be measured.

This is a full-time position employed by St Columba’s Hospice Care, Edinburgh on behalf of the Scotland’s Hospices Together partners. The post will be managed on a day-to-day basis by the Director of Income Generation at St Columba’s Hospice Care in Edinburgh. Support, guidance and reviews will be carried out by the Director at St Columba’s Hospice Care. Reports will be provided in person and in writing to all partners on a regular basis.

Autism Initiatives Scotland provides a range of person centred services throughout Scotland to people who are 16 years old and over.

Leading by example, the Team Leader will support the Area Manager in ensuring that all staff are managed and supervised effectively and that the highest level of autism specific practice and standards are maintained. You will also manage the staff to deliver support plans to our service users and work with healthcare professionals to ensure support plans are to the highest quality. The role will involve supporting the Area Manager to implement the service development plan and lead on the achievement of the organisation's strategic aims at the service level.

The Team Leader will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service, therefore, you will be able to demonstrate excellent social care project management skills and have a working knowledge of current legislation relating to the social care sector.
