Patient Advisor (Argyll House Surgery)

We are seeking a self-motivated individual with excellent attention to detail. The successful candidate must have exceptional people skills and an interest/background in healthcare experience preferred.

Experience using SystmOne is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Main duties of the job

To provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Argyll House Surgery has been providing an excellent standard of medical care to thousands of patients in Ryde, Wootton Bridge and the surrounding villages for more than 25 years.

Our team includes a full-time GP, two part-time GPs, two practice nurses, and one healthcare assistant as well as a Clinical Pharmacist, Practice Manager, reception and secretarial staff. We run a full range of general practice services with special clinics for babies, pregnant women and patients with certain conditions. At the surgery, we aim to treat all patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence.

Job responsibilities

Reception Duties

1. Receiving patients, consulting with members of the practice team.
2. Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patients and checking names and addresses.
3. Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary.
4. Process appointment requests/future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
5. Deal with patient visits/requests.
6. Registrations of new patients, computer data entry and medical records.
7. Process patients' changes of address, computer data and medical records (have knowledge of practice area).
8. Processing blood test requests and generating these for appointments as per GP request.

Telephone

1. Have working knowledge of telephone/bleep system, during and after hours.
2. Have a polite, friendly, approachable telephone manner.
3. Experience dealing with difficult/agitated patients.
4. To answer and make calls and deal with them appropriately, following practice protocol.

Other Tasks

1. Ensure building security.
2. Any other tasks allocated by managers.

Person Specification

Experience

1. Experience in working within a customer service environment.
2. Experience processing medication requests.
3. Experience using SystmOne (primary Care IT system) is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications

1. GCSE Mathematics C or above.
2. GCSE English C or above.

Skills

1. Excellent telephone manner.
2. Ability to work under pressure.
