Job Description:

Location: London Victoria

Reports to: Head of Legal

Job Type: Part-time (3-4 days per week, hybrid working)

Experience Level: 4+ PQE

A prominent infrastructure business based in London Victoria is seeking a construction lawyer to join its high-performing legal team on a part-time basis. This is a unique opportunity for a commercially astute lawyer to play a pivotal role in delivering strategic legal support across a major infrastructure portfolio, while enjoying the flexibility to balance work with other commitments.

This role would suit a self-sufficient and pragmatic lawyer with strong construction experience who thrives in a collaborative, solutions-focused environment. The team is collegiate, well-respected within the business, and works closely with senior stakeholders across engineering, commercial, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on a wide range of transactional construction matters, including major works contracts, consultancy appointments, and supply chain arrangements
  • Draft, review, and negotiate standard and bespoke construction and engineering agreements (NEC, JCT, FIDIC)
  • Support procurement activity and contract strategy across the group’s infrastructure projects
  • Provide legal input into commercial and corporate transactions involving construction elements
  • Manage legal risk in relation to project delivery, including reviewing and updating standard terms and internal policies
  • Act as a business partner to commercial and project delivery teams, embedding good contracting practices and resolving issues early
  • Handle or oversee contentious matters where required, liaising with external counsel where appropriate
  • Deliver internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions to support the team and wider business
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across the legal function, including template development and process refinement

Key Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 4 years' PQE and strong construction law experience
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with a solid grasp of standard form contracts including NEC and JCT
  • Comfortable advising on adjacent areas such as procurement, commercial contracts, and corporate support
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide clear, commercially grounded advice
  • Previous in-house experience is welcome but not essential
  • Exposure to dispute management or contentious matters within a construction environment would be advantageous

Why Join This Business

  • Flexible part-time hours with hybrid working to support work-life balance
  • High-quality legal work within a respected, stable, and forward-thinking infrastructure group
  • Collaborative and down-to-earth team culture where legal is valued as a strategic business partner
  • Involvement in nationally significant infrastructure and regeneration projects
  • Opportunity to shape the way the legal team supports project delivery and risk management
