Ashton Recruitment require a Part-time Advocacy Caseworker for our client Relatives for Justice. This is funded by PEACEPLUS.

Position: Part-time Advocacy Caseworker
Location: Belfast
Duration: Permanent
Pay Rate: £20,950.54 per annum
Hours of work: 22 hours per week

Relatives for Justice is a victim support NGO working with victims and survivors of the conflict. Their vision is to support the empowerment of all conflicts bereaved and injured to realise improved health and wellbeing and full and equal participation at every level of our post-conflict society.

The PEACEPLUS Programme is a unique cross-border structural funding programme aimed at reinforcing progress towards a peaceful, stable, and prosperous society in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. It is supported by the European Union, the UK Government, the Northern Ireland Executive, and the Irish Government. The objective of this Theme & Investment Area is to contribute to the creation of a more cohesive society through an increase in the provision of Health and Wellbeing and Advocacy Support for victims and survivors.

Duties will include:

1. Provide support to bereaved families and those injured, seeking truth and justice in relation to the experience of conflict related violations.
2. Research and collate information from families, official, and public sources into a single accessible record/report based on the evidence acquired with a view to assisting families to make relevant submission/representations; or for family archive purposes, such as family report.
3. Provide accurate and comprehensive information/advice on historic cases, including information on any emergent transitional justice/truth recovery mechanisms.
4. Provide practical support to families as they engage with statutory or other bodies.
5. Identify themes and patterns of violations and support groups of families in pursuit of thematic remedy.
6. Maintain and update files on each case, ensuring all files are properly archived and recorded.
7. Organise meetings with client groups and/or families for the purposes of sharing information or planning events.
8. Help plan and organise conferences, meetings etc. as relevant to the work of Relatives for Justice.
9. Provide positive referrals for appropriate family support.
10. Liaise and network with other providers to be able to signpost families to appropriate internal and external services.
11. Maintain high levels of confidentiality, in accordance with RFJ policies.
12. Monitor and review the work carried out with families and individuals bereaved and/or injured because of the conflict within the RFJ casework area.

Essential Criteria:
By the closing date for applications, candidates must be able to demonstrate:

1. A relevant degree plus 1 year experience providing advocacy and advice to vulnerable clients Or 4 years' experience providing advocacy and advice to vulnerable clients.
2. A minimum of 2 years' practical experience collating information, writing reports and analysing complex information.
3. A minimum of 2 years' practical experience of effectively managing complex client interactions.
4. A minimum of 2 years' experience working and building relationships with multiple stakeholders.
5. Working knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluating outputs and outcomes.
6. Ability to work autonomously and with initiative, including effective prioritisation of tasks and ability to work to agreed aims and objectives.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
8. Sound knowledge of ICT including all Microsoft Office applications (word, excel, outlook, internet etc.).
9. Excellent understanding of impact of the conflict on victims and survivors.
10. Excellent understanding of legal frameworks for Victims and Survivors including the Legacy Act, and transitional processes for victims of the conflict.
11. Commitment to the core values, aims and objectives of Relatives for Justice.
12. Hold a full Driving license valid in the UK with access to a car. This criterion will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to make alternative arrangements.
