We have considerable experience in handling sensitive and/or high-profile claims and are equally skilled in handling the media attention that these cases sometimes attract. Our specialist practitioners act exclusively for the police service, representing a diverse range of forces across England and Wales. As the largest dedicated police legal team in the country our lawyers have been involved in some of the most high-profile and significant cases involving the police service over the last 15 years.

We are recruiting for a paralegal with 0-2 years experience to join our national Casualty Police Claims team in London. As a Paralegal, your primary role will be to provide assistance to lawyers in the Police Claims team. You will work on the defence of a wide variety of claims against the police. Your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  1. Assisting fee earners with various tasks including general case management, legal research, reports to clients and preparation for court hearings;
  2. Attending client meetings and court hearings to support fee earners;
  3. Assisting with the instruction of counsel and experts;
  4. Responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision;
  5. Achieving financial and chargeable hours targets;
  6. Supporting the team's business development activities.

This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role. As a Paralegal, you will also ensure that you comply with the relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently work in accordance with our values.

About You

You will be a Paralegal with up to 2 years experience; Police law experience (claimant or defendant); Knowledge of the CPR and litigation; File handling experience; Civil litigation experience; Good organisation skills; Good time management skills; Good communication skills; Good IT skills; Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets; Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative; Flexible approach to work and a willingness to travel.
