HMP Swansea is an Adult male category B/C prison site located in Swansea.

Your new role
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Painter to join the facilities team at HMP Swansea on a long-term temporary contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the interior and exterior appearance of the prison through painting and decorating tasks. This role requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently in a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Carry out painting and decorating tasks across various areas of HMP Swansea, including walls, ceilings, doors, windows, and external structures.
  2. Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and priming as required.
  3. Apply paints, stains, varnishes, and other coatings to a high standard.
  4. Ensure that all work is completed in line with health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  5. Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
  6. Work closely with the maintenance team to schedule and prioritise work to meet project deadlines.
  7. Carry out routine maintenance checks and make recommendations for improvement where necessary.
  8. Ensure work areas are kept clean and organised at all times.
  9. Comply with all site regulations, including health and safety protocols, security checks, and confidentiality requirements.
What you'll need to succeed
  1. Proven experience as a painter and decorator, ideally in a maintenance or facilities management setting.
  2. Good knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and tools.
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  4. Attention to detail with a focus on quality.
  5. Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  6. Must be able to pass security checks and work within the secure environment of HMP Swansea.
  7. Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively.
  8. Previous experience working in a correctional facility or similar environment is an advantage, though not essential.
