Job description

Are you passionate, highly motivated, and enthusiastic about ultrasound? If so, we have an exciting opportunity within the radiology department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for a Band 8a Paediatric Clinical Specialist Sonographer to support the in-patient ultrasound service.

The role is for an independent, highly specialised, autonomous reporting clinical specialist paediatric sonographer.

Consideration will be given to suitably qualified sonographers who require additional training in paediatrics, including clinically complex and specialised examinations.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Performing a range of highly complex paediatric ultrasound examinations to an exceptional standard.
  2. Producing high quality, independent reports ensuring compliance with imaging protocols.
  3. Contributing to the management of the patient.

This complexity of ultrasound imaging and interpretation is performed by a consultant radiologist at other local and paediatric hospitals and was previously undertaken by consultant radiologists at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (e.g., liver transplantation, oncology, and ED ultrasound). This role aims to deliver a safe, effective, and efficient service that meets both patient/families/carers and staff requirements, aligning with the Vision of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
