About the Packhouse & Production Manager job

The purpose of your role will be to oversee the efficient running of the packing facility, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and regulatory compliance are met. You will manage staff schedules, drive continuous improvement, and minimise downtime while maintaining a safe working environment. Acting as the key point of contact for customers and suppliers, you will coordinate orders, logistics, and procurement to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, you shall monitor costs, oversee technical documentation, and support audits to maintain high standards of food safety and compliance.

Key tasks

  1. Oversee multiple production lines, minimizing downtime while identifying opportunities for efficiency and process improvements. Monitor production costs, manage the packhouse budget, and provide insights at weekly management meetings to enhance business performance.
  2. Act as the main point of contact for customers, managing expectations and ensuring orders align with programs. Liaise with third-party transport companies to meet delivery deadlines, handle procurement of packaging materials, and manage third-party tray and pallet accounts to reduce waste and costs.
  3. Coordinate packhouse staff schedules, ensuring compliance with legal requirements while supporting the team as needed. Lead team development across Production, Despatch, and RMI staff, fostering a culture of service quality through regular meetings.
  4. Maintain technical documentation to regulatory standards, ensuring HACCP systems are up to date. Monitor health and safety compliance, identify risks, and implement solutions. Act as "front of house" for customer and auditor visits, ensuring smooth external inspections.

About You

  1. Experience in a management or supervisory role within fresh produce packing operations, with a strong focus on attention to detail.
  2. A strong understanding of industry best practices in food packing and the ability to effectively apply them to drive operational excellence in a packhouse environment.
  3. Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a diverse team, including seasonal staff, while effectively communicating change and improving performance.
  4. Skilled at multitasking in a fast-paced environment, managing customer expectations, and diagnosing and implementing solutions efficiently.

The Packhouse & Production Manager job (ref:8874) is paying £40,000 - £45,000 according to your experience.

The site is near Doncaster and is commutable from Gainsborough, Retford, Lincoln, Worksop, Scunthorpe and surrounding towns.

The working week is Monday to Friday with some flexibility for weekends where required.
