Packaging Designer - Home and Lifestyle

The location of the role is Paddington, London (hybrid working).

The duration of the contract is 12 months.

The pay rate on offer is £250 - £450 per day (depending on experience).

The client is a multinational high-street retailer.

Job Summary: The Packaging Designer will play a key role in developing creative and functional packaging solutions that reflect the brand's ethos and enhance the customer experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in packaging design, particularly within the Home and Lifestyle industry, and will be adept at combining form and function to create packaging that is both visually appealing and practical.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Development:

  • Create innovative packaging designs for a wide range of Home and Lifestyle products, including but not limited to home décor, kitchenware, textiles, and lifestyle accessories.
  • Develop packaging concepts from initial ideation to final production, ensuring designs meet brand guidelines, product requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Collaborate closely with product designers, marketing teams, and suppliers to ensure packaging is aligned with the overall brand strategy and product vision.
  • Roll out brand toolkits to internal teams and external partners, ensuring consistent application of brand elements across all packaging materials.

Material and Sustainability Consideration:

  • Select appropriate materials and finishes that not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the packaging but also align with the company's sustainability goals.
  • Work with suppliers to source eco-friendly and cost-effective materials that meet quality and safety standards.

Trend Research and Innovation:

  • Be aware of the latest packaging trends, materials, and technologies within the Home and Lifestyle industry.
  • Propose and implement new packaging ideas that can differentiate our products in the market and enhance the customer experience.

Project Management:

  • Manage multiple packaging design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality designs.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to ensure smooth workflow and on-time project completion.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Experience:
  • 4 years plus of experience in packaging design, with a strong portfolio showcasing work in the Home and Lifestyle sector.
  • Experience with a variety of materials, including sustainable and eco-friendly options.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and 3D design software (such as SolidWorks, Cinema 4D).
  • Strong understanding of print production processes, packaging materials, and structural design.
  • Excellent visual and spatial design skills, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of sustainable packaging practices and materials.
  • Experience working with global teams and suppliers.
  • Familiarity with the latest packaging trends and consumer preferences in the Home and Lifestyle industry.
