We are looking to appoint a Cyber Security Manager to lead the Cyber Security Team to ensure the security and resilience of the council's IT Systems, Infrastructure and data, and to ensure appropriate mitigation measures are in place to protect the council's IT and information assets.

This role is key in ensuring that we meet our strategic objectives in providing an agile, secure and modern service that meets the needs of our customers as well as providing the governance required to maintain our operational activities which support all of the council's services.


The successful candidate will:

  • Report to the council's Strategic Service Manager - Cyber Security and Networks, providing assurance that projects are being delivered within budget, on time, and in line with the project requirements.
  • Have extensive knowledge of key cyber security technologies and toolsets.
  • Design, develop and implement security controls and enhancements to the council's IT environment to maximise the quality of the service, satisfy strategic objectives and deliver the required business benefits relating to confidentiality, integrity and availability of council data.
  • Lead on the design and implementation of the actions listed within council's Cyber Security Strategy and the Cyber Security Teams work programme.
  • Have outstanding leadership qualities along with proven cyber security experience in order to develop a trusting, capable, resilient and high performing team, keeping abreast of current and future cyber security threats and trends.
  • Lead on the council's Cyber Security user awareness programme.
  • Ensure that cyber security risks are identified and appropriately managed to protect the council's IT infrastructure.
  • Require detailed knowledge and understanding of Cyber Security best practices, aligning to industry standards such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus as well as an awareness and understanding of HMG and NIS Security policies, standards and guidance.
  • Hold a CISSP or other similar industry recognised cyber security certification or significant relevant experience working in an equivalent role within a large complex organisation.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively to elected members, senior managers, and staff at all levels, using a range of mediums.

The IT Service is responsible for provision of a wide range of technologies and solutions enabling council services to operate effectively and efficiently across the borough in the most effective way to deliver the best outcomes to the people of Gateshead.

We're responsible for the provision and support of IT technologies and networks to over 3,500 users with over 200 sites across the borough which stretches from Bill Quay to Chopwell.
