Overall Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Data Manager, the Database Administrator will work within the Data Team supporting and maintaining the databases within our estate. Additionally, supporting development of in house application upgrades, troubleshooting database and application problems where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Day-to-day administration of the company’s databases, including tuning, troubleshooting, and applying scripts to test and production environments. Adhering to the company standards.

Collaborating with development teams to design and architect solutions to ensure consistency of approach and work with the agreed standards.

Develop and maintain database/data documentation inc. DB schema’s, configurations, standards and procedures.

Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in database and data methodology, recommending innovative solutions to enhance and improve our data offerings.

Assist with design and changes of the Data Warehouse.

Assist with inhouse and 3rd party application enhancements and implementations.

  • Be aware of the Business Continuity and IT Disaster Recovery plans and actively participate in recovery, improvements, and tests.
  • Attend courses and seminars when required.

Essential Skills

  • Proven and demonstrable experience working as an Oracle DBA.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Data Guard.
  • Excellent PL/SQL experience.
  • Willing to work outside of working hours for implementations and upgrades.
  • Pro-active and able to look ahead for potential problems within the database and take preventative or mitigating actions in advance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Experience in the insurance or banking sector or highly regulated sector.
  • Experience of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure – ADB/DBCS
