Operations Director

Location: Derbyshire

Salary: £75,000-£80,000 + Benefits

The Company

Our client is a leading provider of precision engineering solutions, specialising in the machining of complex, performance-critical components across a variety of industries, including aerospace and defence. This business has seen over 50% growth over the last 3 years, reaching £14 million turnover in 2024.

With advanced capabilities in both machining and high-integrity fabrications, they deliver a wide range of components, from small, intricate parts to large-scale assemblies. Their state-of-the-art facilities enable them to handle projects of various sizes with exceptional precision. Committed to the highest standards of quality, they offer expert services in inspection, non-destructive testing, and manufacturing engineering, all within a highly regulated, low-volume environment.

They are looking for an Operations Director to join their team with immediate effect.

The Role

The role of Operations Director will involve managing a dynamic team and ensuring the smooth running of operations. In this newly created role for the business, this is the perfect opportunity to take on a key leadership role and make a real impact on operational performance, in a role where you can drive change and help shape the future of the business. The Operations Director will be responsible for:

  1. Managing and leading key department heads, including Production, Materials, and Engineering, with 5 direct and approximately 100 indirect reports.
  2. Ensuring high performance and developing a skills matrix for continued development.
  3. Overseeing daily operations, developing efficient plans, and collaborating with the management team to streamline workflows and optimise production.
  4. Maintaining timely, quality-driven delivery of orders, meeting quoted lead times and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  5. Identifying areas for improvement, reducing indirect time, and upholding the right first-time approach to maintain high standards of productivity and quality.
  6. Ensuring a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety standards, promoting a culture of safety across all teams.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Operations Director role you will need:

  1. Experience managing operations in a high value, low volume precision engineering environment.
  2. Management experience of teams totalling circa 100 people, including appraisals and people development.
  3. Strong knowledge of best practices, with the ability to bring innovative ideas to the table.
  4. Commercial awareness, understanding the importance of on-time delivery and proactive planning to avoid delays.
  5. A leader capable of developing people, engaging with the team to foster a good team culture.
