Operational Director of People & Culture

In agreement with Cheshire and Merseyside ICB vacancy panel, this post is restricted to colleagues who work within Cheshire and Merseyside.

You will be joining the Trust at an exciting time as we progress our work to improve the experience of our people. With a focus on creating a culture of belonging you will lead the organisation in creating a positive and productive working environment.

With experience working as a senior HR professional in a large, complex organisation, you will have proven ability in leading, transforming and delivering a range of People services, leading culture change and cross-organisational workforce programmes. With the ability to gain credibility with a range of stakeholders including trade unions, you will have the ability to interpret and advise on complex workforce and cultural issues.

Main duties of the job

A forward thinking and innovative member and leader of our People Directorate delivering our People Plan and our transformational programme. Able to deputise across the entire portfolio of the Chief People and Culture Officer with the ability to build credibility with, inspire confidence and demonstrably influence staff at all levels across our diverse services.

Job responsibilities

Contributing to building a culture which is actively anti-racist and supports our strategic framework. They will be an exceptional leader of people, with drive, vision, a strategic mind-set, clarity of purpose, proven track record of OD delivery and strategic thinking, an excellent grasp of HR and learning and development, and high levels of integrity. They will lead and support the delivery of our people plan, continuing to build on the transformation of our people function. They will lead on several major Trust-wide projects developing appropriate actions to respond to the various workforce challenges.

Working closely with colleagues to support collaborative working and develop and implement workforce strategies across the wider place and system.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Professional / academic qualification at masters level or equivalent experience
  • MCIPD qualified or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Chartered Fellow of CIPD
  • Additional specialist qualifications, e.g. Coaching or psychometric testing

Knowledge and Experience

  • Extensive Senior management experience at a very senior level in an organisation of comparable size and complexity
  • Experience of successful human resource management and people development in a large complex public or private organisation
  • Experience of contributing to corporate strategy outside field of expertise
  • Knowledge and experience of organisation, team and individual interventions to drive improvement.
  • Experience of building, maintaining and utilising successful partnerships across a range of organisations
  • Experience of dealing with trade unions and creating positive employee relations
  • Self-driven and extremely customer and results focused.
  • Experience of managing significant budgets and achieving recurrent savings
  • Evidence of managing complex employee relations issues (including Maintaining High Professional Standards and tribunal cases)
  • Experience of driving innovative recruitment and retention solutions
  • Understanding of workforce planning tools and techniques
  • Evidence of personal development and leadership in becoming actively anti-racist
  • A thorough understanding of employment law and its impact on working environment
