We are seeking module tutors with a Criminology Research Methods background to join our dynamic online faculty. In this role, you will lead and support the learning of our online students working in close collaboration with our university partner, the University of Essex. Further information on our programmes can be found at https://online.essex.ac.uk/.

We are looking for individuals with experience in the following subject areas:

  • Quantitative Research Methods

  • Qualitative Research Methods

  • Data Analysis and Reporting

  • SPSS/JASP

  • IPA analysis

  • Dissertation Supervisors

What you’ll bring to the role

You will have a strong academic background and practical applied experience in one or more of the relevant subject areas outlined above. You will also have experience of teaching and assessment on higher education programmes at postgraduate level as well as an enthusiasm for online learning.

Essential criteria

  • Experience of teaching and assessing at level 7 within the UK Higher Education sector

  • Excellent IT skills, primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online meeting software.

  • Good interpersonal skills, comfortable liaising with academic colleagues, tutors and students both face-to-face and in a virtual environment.

  • Experience of working with students from a range of cultural backgrounds

  • Excellent written communication skills in English

  • Reliable internet connection.

Desirable criteria

  • Doctoral qualification in a related subject

  • Experience of teaching in an online environment

  • Familiarity of the UK Higher Education sector and UK Quality Assurance

  • Relevant Higher Education teaching qualification.

  • Fellowship recognition by AdvanceHE

  • Experience of supervising students with their UG and PG dissertations

Additional Application Information

You will need to be available for the online New Tutor training that runs for 2 weeks from 13th May 2025 to 26th May 2025 (Dates to be confirmed). New Tutor Training is mandatory, and the duration of the course is 2 weeks. However, this does not require you to be online for the whole of this period. Instead, you will engage in tasks and activities across the 2-week course such as the following:

  • Engage with a discussion forum.
  • Complete the compulsory training - GDPR and Prevent Duty Grade and provide feedback on an example student submission.
  • Read up on key KOL and University of Essex Online policies.
  • Complete quizzes, e.g., plagiarism quiz.
