Occupational Therapist - Band 5
Thorndon Ward, Brentwood Community Hospital

We are seeking a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team on Thorndon Ward at Brentwood Community Hospital. We provide rehabilitation to older people living in the local community with the aim of supporting them to return to their own homes as independent as possible. The unit consists of 25 beds.

Main duties of the job

You will have a pivotal role in ensuring patients receive a high standard of Occupational Therapy care whilst they are on our ward. You will have the opportunity to develop understanding and application of the OT process, develop knowledge of different types of equipment and how to assess for these as well as completing assessments and treatment programmes for activities of daily living. It is essential you have access to your own vehicle as you will be required to complete access and home visits to help facilitate discharge. As some of our beds are for Dementia patients you will get the opportunity to develop your understanding of these conditions and the role OT may play with this client group including cognitive screening assessments and therapeutic interventions.

The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously and have experience of working as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, preferably with older adults. You will have excellent communication skills, time management skills with the ability to prioritise and problem solve.

Working for our organisation

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Experience
