Job description

This is a temporary opportunity for an experienced and motivated Occupational Therapist to join The Woodmill, a rehabilitation service for women with complex emotional and mental health needs. You will be instrumental in promoting health and independence by delivering high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions, while also providing clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation to the wider multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for communicating effectively with a range of clinicians, managers, and other stakeholders, providing compassionate and effective leadership to junior staff, ensuring the delivery of occupational therapy student placements, and supporting the completion of appraisals and personal development plans. You will also be involved in the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols, and care pathways.

Job responsibilities

Your responsibilities as an Occupational Therapist will include:

  • Communicating effectively with a range of clinicians, managers, directors, associate directors, people who access services, carers/supporters/family members, stakeholders, and agencies.
  • Providing compassionate and effective leadership to junior staff including support staff and assistants.
  • Ensuring the delivery of occupational therapy student placements.
  • Supporting the completion of appraisals/personal development plans with junior staff.
  • Being responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols, and care pathways.

To be a Successful Occupational Therapist you will need:

  • An Occupational Therapy profession qualification.
  • Extensive and relevant post-qualification clinical experience with children and young people who have complex needs.
  • Extensive experience of applying occupational frames of reference and approaches.
  • Evidence of highly effective clinical reasoning skills.
  • Highly specialist knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models.
  • Knowledge of how to work with neurodiverse individuals.

Where you will be working:

The Woodmill, Exeter Road, Cullompton, Devon, EX15 1EA. The 18-bed unit creates a pathway for patients to step down through their recovery. Ivy is a 6-bed admission area and Rose is a 12-bed rehabilitation area, with the option to flex within the 12-bed area to a four-bed section that can create a further step down with a separate entrance for those patients that are progressing well and are preparing for discharge to the community.

The aim of the service is to support women to improve their self-worth, build a better quality of life for themselves, and equip them with the skills needed for community living and increased independence.

Qualifications

  • You will need an Occupational Therapy profession qualification, extensive and relevant post-qualification clinical experience with children and young people who have complex needs, and a demonstrated ability to apply occupational frames of reference and approaches. You should also possess highly effective clinical reasoning skills, specialized knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models, and an understanding of how to work with neurodiverse individuals.
