Job description

Group Manager ensuring that the highest standards of childcare and education are always maintained.

Main Duties

  • To deliver and ensure a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years.
  • To manage the day to day running of the Nursery.
  • To ensure that the Nursery is a safe environment for children, staff, and others.
  • Abide by the Trafford Guidelines & the Statutory Framework for the Early Years on Safeguarding Children together with Elmscot’s Safeguarding Policy; ensuring you have an understanding that safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and that you have a duty to act accordingly & report any concerns.
  • To demonstrate current knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and that you comply with all areas of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Understand and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures at all times.
  • To develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development.
  • To manage all other staff within the Nursery.

General Responsibilities

  • To ensure responsibility for the effective daily management of the Nursery.
  • To have a sound knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • To have experience of OFSTED requirements and to continually work towards achieving an outstanding Nursery.
  • To act as an excellent role model to the staff team being able to showcase high quality practice in all areas.
  • To take responsibility for excellent hygiene, health and safety and security practice within the Nursery. To support the 3rd In Charges and Senior Early Years’ Practitioners in the day to day running of each individual rooms.
  • To ensure the team are planning and providing appropriate daily activities in line with guidance from the EYFS.
  • To uphold the highest level of safeguarding practice and ensure Company policies and procedures are always adhered to.
  • To ensure team training is always up to date.
  • To manage and supervise observation, assessment, and planning, ensuring all children are making progress.
  • Plan and purchase children’s equipment, resources, and consumables, within a set budget.
  • Maintain children’s registers and all details on “parenta” the computerised booking system, maximizing occupancy levels and keeping records of extra sessions, changes to sessions, starter and leaver information ensuring all new starters have paid a deposit. Organise the grouping of children and the moving of children between groups.
  • To conduct regular staff 1:1’s, supervisions and appraisals. Encourage professional development within the team.
  • Support staff in preparing for regulatory inspections, informing them of any changes to Nursery policies and procedures and any changes to statutory requirements relating to the EYFS.
  • Allocate and support Specialist roles e.g. Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, Safeguarding Children Co-ordinator, IT Coordinator, H&S Coordinator etc. and monitor their ongoing training and practice.
  • Maintain up-to-date staff records, including addresses, telephone numbers, references, DBS and health checks, disciplinary actions, holidays, booked and taken absences, training records and requirements, appraisal performance records and target setting and keep a Supply Staff register.
  • New staff recruitment and induction following safer recruitment procedures and keep personnel files up to date.
  • Monitor and maintain correct staffing levels/deployment, complete weekly shifts including monitoring staff overtime, holidays, and staff sickness records, so that they are up to date for payroll to be completed.
  • Report matters of concern regarding children, staff, or parents to the Group Operations Manager. Monitor and maintain Health & Safety, Accident, Medicine and Injury on arrival forms and specialist role files as appropriate.
  • Complete milk subsidy form/online process.
  • To work with outside professionals where required. To work closely with parents and create trusting relationships with all families – showing prospective parents around the nursery, being able to answer their questions and giving support.
  • Deal appropriately to telephone queries, responding to all enquiries within an appropriate time.
  • Support parents when necessary and deal with complaints when they arise follow up with letters or relevant paperwork.
  • Hold regular team meetings to ensure all team are up to date with current laws and legislation and are working toward the Nursery vision.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Minimum level 3 in early years or equivalent Knowledge of the Early Years’ Sector Good standard of English and Maths at GCSE grades 7-4 or equivalent

Relevant Experience & Skills (Essential)

  • 3 years or more experience of working in a nursery or similar environment Management or deputy management experience
  • Excellent knowledge of the Early Years’ Foundation Stage and current Ofsted framework

Personal Style & Behaviour (Essential)

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with staff, children, and parents
