Job description

St. Vincents Nursing Home is a not-for-profit, independent Nursing Home registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Our aim is to be a leading residential and nursing care provider.

Job Purpose: To lead your unit within St. Vincents Nursing Home, ensuring that high-quality care to our residents is always being delivered.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide clinical support and guidance within the nursing care team.
  2. Mentor your team to upskill and support them.
  3. Support your team with competency-based monitoring and training around the Care Certificate.
  4. Provide strong leadership in the clinical environment using the core skills of facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, teaching, and delegation.
  5. Manage the ordering and administration of medication for all residents.
  6. Monitor staff performance and conduct and conduct annual appraisals with all direct reports.
  7. Ensure safe systems of work are in line with the Home requirements.
  8. Represent the Home on Health & Safety matters.
  9. Participate in and lead organisational clinical and nursing audit programmes.
  10. Support Governance in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and complaints.
  11. Induct new staff and organise training.
  12. Work closely with the other Nurse Managers on a rotational basis.
  13. Keep accurate records of day-to-day practice.
  14. Adhere to the requirements of confidentiality in relation to residents and staff by referring to the Safeguarding and GDPR policies of St. Vincents Nursing Home and CQC.
  15. To ensure personal compliance with Home Policies and Procedures including Health & Safety and Security Regulations.
  16. To maintain desired standards of behaviour and general appearance.
  17. Complete mandatory training.

Additional Responsibilities
  1. Employees must be aware of their Health & Safety responsibilities to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out and to maintain a safe environment for all employees, residents, volunteers, and visitors.
  2. To be aware of infection control policies, procedures, and the importance of protecting themselves, residents, volunteers, and visitors and in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
  3. Receive induction training and yearly updates for Manual Handling Moving and Positioning, to provide sufficient and safe practice with residents. This includes working with hoists, rota stands, and other specialised transfer, positioning, and postural management equipment, in the correct way, fulfilling Health & Safety policies and legislation.
  4. To follow St. Vincents Nursing Home training requirements such as yearly mandatory training via e-learning, staff competencies, and workshops if required to attend.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Competence in nursing interventions. E.g. venipuncture, male catheterisation.
  • Care Standard's Act 2000.
  • CQC Regulations.
  • Experience of working within a nursing team.
  • Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients.
Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse.
  • Valid PIN.
  • Qualification in Older People care.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Great interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible / adaptable.
