What you'll do

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works under the medical direction of the Radiologist in charge and under the general supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Coordinator and the Medical Imaging Supervisor. The Nuclear Medicine Technologists’ primary responsibility is in Nuclear Diagnostic and Cardiology Stress lab on a rotational basis. Requests for occasional cross-coverage at other alternate network locations is possible; Providing both technical as well as providing prompt, efficient courteous service to our patients. In addition, this individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assist the Radiation Safety Officer with reports, records, and statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes for our organizations Radiation Safety Program. This individual needs to have the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and provide the care needed.

  • To provide high quality test results in a prompt and accurate fashion.
  • Explains scans and procedures to the patients to set aside fears; properly performs all Nuclear Medicine studies and records all data into the appropriate logs.
  • Performs SPECT scans in accordance to our established SPECT scanning protocols.
  • Ability to produce and store high quality images for the Radiologist before the official reading.
  • Performs protocol duties that include filing, logbook entries, and distribution of appropriate Nuclear Medicine documents.
  • Maintains appropriate record keeping for patient’s medical record, statistical information, radioactive utilization, and billing process.
  • Participates in quality assurance on equipment as well as other Radiation Safety issues.
  • Checks instrument calibrations daily; performs quality control procedures daily on equipment and reagents.
  • Conducts ongoing equipment maintenance checks and if necessary, will call service engineer for repair.
  • Orders isotopes, scanning kits, and exposure protection equipment.
  • Maintains adequate level of inventory for routine and emergency Nuclear Medicine scans.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of isotopes, scanning kits and film.
  • Attends the necessary meetings to keep up with changes within the department.
  • Attends monthly department meetings as recorded in the meeting minutes.
  • Reviews meeting minutes when unable to attend, at the discretion of supervisor and coordinator.
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
What we need from you

Education:

  • Completion of ASRT training program in Nuclear Medicine, required
Experience:
  • Minimum one-year prior experience, two years preferred
  • New graduates will be considered
Licensure/Certifications:
  • CNMT certification or ARRT-N registration, required
  • BLS certification, required
  • NYS Registration as a Nuclear Med Tech, required

Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy Work - Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs, of force constantly to move objects.

  • Frequent grasping, hearing, reaching, standing, talking, walking.
  • Constant typing/clerical/dexterity, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use.
Hazards:
  • Occasional bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure.
  • Frequent chemical exposure.
  • Constant radiation/radiant energy exposure.

Pay Range

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. The above compensation range represents a good faith belief of the compensation range by Bassett Healthcare Network, and its entities and affiliates, at the time of this posting or advertisement.

Pay Range Minimum:
USD $39.79/Hr.
Pay Range Maximum:
USD $59.68/Hr.
