Nuclear Manufacturing Engineer - West Midlands (Hybrid)

Our client is a well-respected manufacturer within the Nuclear power industry. They seek a talented manufacturing engineer on an ongoing basis.

The role:

  1. Instruct on optimal methods for manufacturing components and assemblies, ensuring safety and quality using the in-house planning and route card system.
  2. Generate manufacturing inspection and test plans (MITPs) and issue route cards with clear instructions and accurate manufacturing timings.
  3. Participate in design reviews to ensure drawings and plans are manufacturable and contain precise instructions.
  4. Input, sanitize, control, and update manufacturing data in the in-house production control and MRP systems.
  5. Identify and minimise waste and non-value-adding activities from design to despatch, documenting these improvements.
  6. Conduct make/buy assessments based on cost, capability, resource availability, schedule, and quality requirements.
  7. Assist in the tendering process, including developing manufacturing strategies.
  8. Raise and resolve NCRs using methods like 5 Whys, DMAIC, and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  9. Maintain and update manufacturing drawings, documentation, and quality records.

Requirements:
  1. 5+ years' industrial manufacturing experience in machining and/or welding within a lean environment.
  2. Degree qualified in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (or the above 5 years).
  3. Experience in using MRL.
  4. Knowledge of at least two manufacturing processes: machining, mechanical assembly, welding, or electronic/electrical assembly.
  5. Understanding of various welding processes, material impacts, and defect prevention.
  6. Familiarity with inspection processes and ability to interpret engineering drawings for manufacturing instructions.
  7. Communicate clear instructions to people with varying expertise.
  8. Produce detailed manufacturing instructions for planners, operators, inspectors, and quality engineers.
  9. Experience in leading a manufacturing process.
