Reporting of the Role

Reporting to Senior Newsgathering Producer

Your new role:

LBC is looking for an experienced Newsgathering producer to support its team of journalists working on high impact original journalism, day-to-day news output, and breaking stories.

You'll have a hand in delivering exclusives, positioning LBC's reporters at the heart of the stories which matter to our audiences and support with the wider planning operation for Global's newsroom.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supporting the wider newsgathering team to co-ordinate our coverage of breaking news, on-diary stories, and the curation of original journalism.
2. Booking high profile guests that help spark debate, bring analysis, and are at the heart of the stories that matter to LBC.
3. Taking a lead in planning meetings when necessary, guiding producers through the news agenda and key moments that are coming up.
4. Managing a prospect grid and diary of upcoming news events.
5. You'll be confident at making decisions around the use of reporters, which could have an impact on our output.

In your first few months, you’ll have:

1. Worked with reporters to deliver exclusive, high impact journalism.
2. Supported the senior newsgathering producer to secure high-profile guests for LBC and LBC News.
3. Helped to plan coverage of a major news event, deploying reporters and gathering content.
4. Built strong relationships with internal teams, from Branded Content to Editorial and beyond.
5. Embraced our workflows and taken ownership of daily news prospects.
6. Thrived in a supportive, passionate team.

What You’ll Need

1. Organisational skills: This role requires someone with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
2. You'll have a wide-ranging contacts book, and the right numbers to call to book high-profile guests from a variety of fields and backgrounds. You’ll also have a knack for getting the best human-interest stories to air.
3. You'll know what makes a great story for each part of the LBC Brand, from LBC to LBC News and our digital and social offerings.
4. You'll understand what makes great radio and know how to produce segments which engage audiences.
5. You'll have a detailed grasp of the Ofcom code, and the laws which govern broadcasting in the UK.
