Job Introduction

Do you want to be a part of the Senior News Leadership Team at BBC News NI? Do you want to lead a team of journalists working on the award-winning Nolan Show on BBC Radio Ulster? Do you want to drive our digital podcast expansion in BBC News NI, bringing new products to life in a rapidly changing news media landscape?

If the answer is 'Yes' to all those questions, and you have the necessary skills and qualities to back that ambition up, then we want to speak to you. We are looking to recruit a new role of Senior News Editor (Nolan, Podcasts and Special Events) at BBC News NI.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of News and Current Affairs, BBC Northern Ireland, the Senior News Editor (Nolan, Podcasts and Special Events), is a challenging and exciting new position. You will be the senior editorial leader with responsibility for 'The Nolan Show', BBC Northern Ireland's award-winning weekday daily programme on BBC Radio Ulster, and other related content.

You will also be the senior editorial lead with responsibility for expanding BBC News NI's audio digital footprint, through new podcasts on BBC Sounds, with News at their very core. And you will also deliver multiplatform coverage across Digital, Radio and Television of major news events and stories in Northern Ireland, the Irish Republic and further afield, as and when required.

As part of the wider Senior Editor team in BBC News NI, you will also deliver an efficient and effective deployment of people and resources, while at all times being an open, collaborative, strategic and visionary leader. You will also be a strong advocate for a diverse, inclusive and welcoming Newsroom, as well as ensuring impartiality is at the heart of our output.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have a strong track record in producing original and high impact journalism on a multi-platform basis, as well as evidence of leading large news teams in a variety of scenarios. You will also have substantial experience in working on major stories and events, and a proven track record of sound news judgement which demonstrates an ability to deal with complex editorial issues in highly pressurised environments. Resilience, strong leadership, communication, negotiation and inter-personal skills are also essential, as is a strategic mindset and understanding of the radio, television and digital and social media news market.
