Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Cambridge Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) Neuroscience Theme to provide maternity cover for the Neuroscience Theme Manager. This is an opportunity to oversee and contribute to a portfolio of clinical trials and experimental medicine studies spanning clinical neurosciences, working with a variety of PIs within the department and collaborating institutions.


The role holder will be responsible for running and oversight of the CCTU Neuroscience Theme, including leading a team of clinical trial coordinators and other research staff who are coordinating first in human ATMPs, 2a and 2b trials in degenerative brain diseases (Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease) as well as head injury, multiple sclerosis and autoimmune psychosis.


The role holder will also support the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) (and specifically the Devices and Advanced Therapies and Neurodegenerative Disease and Dementia (NDD) themes), as well as the wider Department of Clinical Neurosciences.

Key job functions


  1. Responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the CCTU Neuroscience Theme, and for delivering the portfolio of work from the CCTU Neuroscience Theme Principal Investigators.
  2. Line manage and mentor trial coordinators and other research staff.
  3. Assist research teams to prepare grant funding applications, reports or other forms of structured external reporting relating to projects or associated translational work.
  4. Manage administrative and budgetary aspects for the NIHR Cambridge BRC Devices and Advanced Therapies and NDD themes. Work with the theme co-leads to determine and deliver on key objectives relevant to the work of the Neuroscience Theme.

Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term for 1 year or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
