Natural Product Chemist

We are working with a UK-based biotechnology company using plant biosynthetic pathways to develop novel therapeutic compounds. Through using advanced AI and ML, they harness the chemical diversity of plants to create compounds with potential medical applications.

The company is looking for a Natural Product Chemist to lead and develop their purification pipelines alongside the structural characterisation of small molecules from plant extracts. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team working on the company's biosynthetic production pipeline.

Your Responsibilities may include:
  1. Extraction and purification of small molecules from complex plant material
  2. Characterisation of complex molecular structures
  3. Optimisation of purification methodology and pipelines
  4. Collaboration with the wider scientific team to deliver on projects
Skills Required:
  1. PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field (will also consider MSc plus 2-3 years of experience)
  2. Proficiency in analytical techniques, such as LCMS and HPLC, to purify natural products from plant extracts
  3. Extensive experience characterising complex natural products using 1D and 2D-NMR
  4. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, excellent communication skills
  5. Experience using metabolomics to analyse and identify target compounds (Desirable)
