Job description

PURPOSE

The ECB is introducing the role of England Women’s Selector to play a key role in the selection of England women’s squads at senior and England women’s ‘A’ level. The England Women’s Selector will also influence the allocation of ECB Women’s Central Contracts and play a key role in delivering and reviewing the long-term selection strategy for the international pathway.

YOU’LL LOVE THIS JOB IF

YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Working closely with the Performance Director, England Women and the England Women’s Head of Performance Pathways to select squads that meet the medium and long term needs of the international pathway.
  • Playing a key role as part of the England Women’s Selection Panel in selecting all squads for bilateral and tournament cricket.
  • Observing and reporting on players performing in women’s professional cricket to assess their readiness to play for England.
  • Observing and reporting on players performing in women’s professional cricket to assess their future potential to play for England.
  • Analysing all cricket intelligence available from the analytics team and scouting observations to make informed selection decisions.
  • Working closely with the analytics team to identify key characteristics of future England women’s players to inform the work of the skill specific Lead Scouts.
  • Communicating with Counties regarding Selection Panel decisions.
  • Reviewing all selection decisions and playing an active role in the ongoing review of selections and performances of the England women’s squads.

YOU’LL HAVE

  • In depth knowledge of women’s professional domestic cricket and international women’s cricket.
  • A strong understanding, with a demonstrable desire to further develop it, of talent identification and performance within women’s cricket.
  • Significant understanding of talent development.
  • A strong understanding of data and analytics within women’s cricket.
  • The ability and desire to manage relationships with players and coaches across women’s professional domestic cricket and international women’s cricket.
  • The ability to challenge skilfully and debate effectively as part of a highly functioning Selection Panel.
