The Opportunity

LINX Port Services are currently seeking a National Payroll Manager to join our team, reporting to the General Manager of the Port Services People Team.

As a National Payroll Manager, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the smooth operation of the business payroll function and will be responsible for the accurate and timely payment of all Port Services employees in accordance with their relevant contracts, enterprise agreements, and statutory requirements.

Managing a skilled team of payroll specialists, you will oversee the compliance and delivery of payroll for around 1100 employees, including weekly and monthly pay cycles, providing the crucial support and leadership needed to maintain an efficient and reliable payroll function.

This critical role requires a strong understanding of payroll processes, awards, enterprise agreements, relevant legislation, compliance obligations and would suit a strong Payroll Manager looking to make a real impact on our payroll team and function with a passion for payroll and a drive for continuous improvement and leadership.

About the Position

The National Payroll Manager will be responsible for but not limited to the below duties:

  • Lead a team of payroll specialists providing development, guidance, training, and support.
  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, including payroll calculations, deductions, tax filings, and payment processing.
  • Oversee compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to payroll and taxation.
  • Review and identify areas for process improvement and implement strategies to streamline payroll processes, increase efficiency, and ensure accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain payroll-related documentation, including policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, Finance, and IT, to address payroll-related issues.
  • Identify and implement payroll system enhancements.
  • Remain updated on changes in payroll legislation and regulations and communicate updates to the team as necessary.
  • Handle payroll queries and escalations from employees and other stakeholders, providing timely and accurate responses.
  • Perform regular audits and reviews of payroll data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Undertake month-end and finance-related payroll activities as required.
  • Foster a fun, positive, and supportive team environment that aligns with LINX Ports Services values.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience as a Payroll Manager, preferably in a mid-large organisation.
  • Experience in the utilisation and development of Preceda and Kronos Payroll is desirable.
  • Experience in system integration, payroll transitions, and complicated payroll projects.
  • Leadership experience with a focus on development and mentoring payroll staff.
  • Experience within a Port / maritime / Logistics environment is desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications within accounting or finance are desirable, but not compulsory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
  • Demonstrated Process improvement within payroll functions.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills and experience.
  • Knowledge of remuneration, wages, conditions.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite, including expertise in Excel.
  • End of Month processing experience, Payroll Tax, Superannuation processing.
