Are you currently working in a community or acute paediatric environment and looking for a change?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Named Nurse to join our current Children and Young People's Safeguarding team within the Trust. This is an opportunity to job share the Named Nurse role with the current experienced post holder.

Our CYP safeguarding team works collaboratively in a single hub which encompasses CYP, maternity and adult safeguarding teams alongside mental health, and learning disability nurses. The CYP team comprises a part time Named Nurse, Band 7 Safeguarding Sisters, and a Band 6 Liaison nurse, and you will co-lead the provision of a robust child protection and safeguarding service across the Darent Valley and Queen Mary's Sidcup Hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

You will lead and coordinate the safeguarding and promotion of children and young people's welfare within the Trust and across a multi-agency arena, and be a source of expertise to all staff on safeguarding issues including the provision of statutory and mandatory training, and the identification of vulnerable children. You will advise the Trust on all matters related to risk management and safeguarding children and young people in relation to Child Protection and Safeguarding issues. The post holder will co-manage the Children's safeguarding team.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • 1st level registration with the NMC as a registered children's nurse or registration as a specialist community public health nurse e.g. Health Visitor or School Nurse
  • A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • A post registration Child Protection qualification
  • A teaching/mentor qualification
  • Substantial post registration child protection/safeguarding experience at Band 7
  • Acute hospital safeguarding experience

Person Specification

Essential
  • Educated to first degree level
  • Masters or working at masters level
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Extensive experience of working with children and their families in need of safeguarding and protection.
  • Previous experience of working in a safeguarding specialty
  • Experience of providing direct supervision to health professionals.
  • Able to assess and analyse complex information and produce reports as required for the audience
  • Ability to communicate flexibly in verbal and written formats including to those with barriers to understanding
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Up to date knowledge of national legislation, policies and guidance in relation to safeguarding children
  • Child Protection qualification
  • Mentor course / 998 / or equivalent

Desirable
  • Public Health qualification
  • Management course
  • Experience of undertaking audit/research
