Job description
Job Summary

This post is responsible for the development, delivery and implementation of training and monitoring of national and local guidance relating to safeguarding adults to ensure that the Trust systems and processes reflect these.

Oversight and scrutiny of Trust responses to S42 (Care Act, 2015) enquiries, liaising with adult social care to ensure good outcomes for patients and shared learning across the Trust is undertaken.

Oversight and scrutiny of legislation in relation to the Mental Capacity Act, Prevent and Modern Slavery in relation to safeguarding adults.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide highly developed specialist advice to Ashford and St Peter's NHS Foundation Trust Hospitals, advising and supporting staff in the management of potential or actual adult abuse and protection of adults at risk of harm.
  2. Ensure all policies and procedures relating to safeguarding adults are updated, implemented and adhered to.
  3. To be involved in preparing reports and action plans in response to safeguarding adult reviews (SARs), national guidance and organisational reviews.
  4. To support divisional staff, providing specialist expert advice and scrutiny to facilitate good quality reports in relation to Section 42 (Care Act 2015) enquiries.
  5. To develop a proactive culture towards safeguarding and protecting adults at risk of harm, supporting staff to identify and escalate concerns.
  6. Act as a liaison between the Trust and other local agencies, contributing to the adult safeguarding services across Surrey.
  7. Responsible for developing appropriate content for all elements of specialist training in order to safeguard adults at risk of harm and abuse.
  8. Undertake delivery of specialist training across all staff groups within the Trust.
  9. Line management of the safeguarding adults clinical practice support worker and safeguarding adults and mental health act administrator.

Job Description

Job responsibilities

  1. Develop effective working relationships with Chief Nurse, Executive Directors, Deputy Chief Nurse, All Trust Staff, Divisional Managers/Service Managers, Adult Social Care, Clinical Commissioning Groups.
  2. Manage the safeguarding adults practice support worker and safeguarding adults and mental health act administrator.
  3. Work on own initiative, planning, prioritising and organising workload autonomously.
  4. Initiate and take lead responsibility for recognition and escalation of safeguarding concerns.
  5. Support the implementation of the Surrey Safeguarding Adults Multi-Agency Policies and Procedures.
  6. Act as a highly developed specialist knowledge resource in safeguarding.
  7. Prepare reports and action plans in response to safeguarding adult reviews.
  8. Analyse and interpret complex information reported in safeguarding contexts.
  9. Undertake regular audits and analyse results to inform practice.
  10. Contribute to bi-monthly safeguarding committee reports as required.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Further Training
  • Registered Nurse (RMN/RGN/RNLD) OR Registered professional (HCPC - i.e. therapist/social worker)
  • Masters level degree or equivalent, demonstrable experience.
Desirable
  • Additional/professional qualification.
  • Leadership qualification.
Essential Experience
  • Significant post-registration experience of working with adults at risk in different settings.
  • Experience of audit/evaluating clinical practice.
Desirable
  • Experience of working with patients/clients to develop practice.
