Museum Weekend Volunteer

West Midlands Police Museum is looking for volunteers for Engager and Retail and Admissions roles for weekends. The museum is open from 10am - 4pm on Saturday and 11am - 4pm on Sunday.

Retail & Admissions Role

• Create a warm and friendly welcome to visitors
• Check tickets when people have booked online
• Check in schools and groups to the museum
• Answer visitor enquiries
• Sell tickets for general visits and events
• Sell shop merchandise including handling cash and card payments
• Provide a security presence for the building and shop stock
• Assist with an evacuation in an emergency situation
• General housekeeping

Volunteers should be:

• Willing to handle cash and work with till systems
• Willing to work with booking systems
• Great communicators
• Willing to learn
• Welcoming, approachable and helpful
• Proactive with a positive nature, an interest in providing an excellent visitor experience
• Reliable, well-presented, friendly and polite
• Comfortable working as part of a team; supporting other volunteers
• Able to work with and without direct supervision
• Enthusiastic to learn about policing heritage and museums

Engager Role

• Create a warm and friendly welcome to visitors
• Engage with the visitors about the Lock-up and the West Midlands policing heritage and current policing methods
• Provide information on the exhibits and activities
• Facilitate handling sessions and or dressing up activities
• Provide a security presence for the building and collections
• Assist with an evacuation in an emergency situation
• General housekeeping

Volunteers should be:

• Enthusiastic to learn about policing heritage and museums
• Confident enough to approach and engage with the public
• Great communicators
• Willing to learn
• Welcoming, open and helpful
• Proactive with a positive nature, an interest in providing an excellent visitor experience
• Reliable, well-presented, friendly and polite
• Comfortable working as part of a team; supporting other volunteers
• Able to work with and without direct supervision

Volunteering Times:

The museum is open from 10am - 4pm on Saturday and 11am - 4pm on Sunday.

We do not require our volunteers to complete a minimum number of hours each month, but the expectation is that an individual volunteers once a month at the museum.

Location

The West Midlands Police Museum at the Lock-Up, Steelhouse Lane B4 6NW.

Vetting

All volunteers will need to be vetted by West Midlands Police to undertake this role. In addition to this, a DBS may be required - if successful post interview the team will inform you if the DBS is required.
