Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and versatile Multi-Skilled Carpenter to join our team in Cardiff, specifically working within the social housing sector. This role will involve a variety of carpentry and joinery tasks, including maintenance, repairs, and installations in residential properties. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general carpentry, with the ability to perform additional tasks such as plumbing, basic electrical work, and tiling.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Install, repair, and maintain wooden structures, frameworks, and fixtures in social housing properties, such as doors, windows, skirting boards, architraves, and stairs.
  2. Carry out bespoke joinery work, including shelving units, cabinets, and custom furniture.
  3. Install and repair internal woodwork including flooring, staircases, and doorframes.
  4. Perform general carpentry repairs and maintenance tasks for tenants in social housing properties.
  5. Respond to emergency repair requests, including ensuring the safety and habitability of the property.
  6. Conduct thorough inspections to identify issues that need repair and suggest solutions to property managers or tenants.
  7. Perform minor plumbing tasks, such as fixing leaks, installing taps, or unblocking drains.
  8. Basic electrical work (such as replacing light fittings or switches) where qualified.
  9. Tiling, plastering, and minor building maintenance tasks to keep properties in good condition.
  10. Carry out refurbishments and improvements as part of planned maintenance.
  11. Comply with health and safety regulations at all times, ensuring a safe working environment for both yourself and the residents.
  12. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow site-specific safety procedures.
  13. Communicate effectively with residents to understand their repair needs and ensure customer satisfaction.
  14. Report progress and completion of tasks to the relevant team or management.

Skills & Qualifications

  1. Proven experience as a multi-skilled carpenter with experience working in the social housing sector or residential properties.
  2. Competency in carpentry, joinery, and other general maintenance tasks such as basic plumbing, electrical work, and tiling.
  3. Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  4. Excellent problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  5. Ability to carry out tasks quickly while maintaining a high level of quality.

Qualifications

  1. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery (or equivalent).
  2. A valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card is typically required.
  3. Relevant qualifications in basic plumbing and electrical work are a plus but not essential.
  4. A full UK driving license is required as the role involves traveling to various properties.

Working Hours: 8.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Salary: Up to £15.50 per hour based on skills/accredited qualifications.
