Job description

Our client is a leading Further Education College group, with sites located across the Midlands region. Recently rated by Ofsted as “Good” overall, the College has a number of exciting opportunities available.

Job Details:

The post sits within the Department of Motor Vehicle and Construction. The Department provides training and assessment for apprenticeships, work placed assessments, full and part-time courses from levels 1 to 3 and Higher Education at the college's centre. The post holder will join the existing Motor Vehicle team and be responsible to the Head of Department for the area.


The post holder will provide practical instruction to relevant industry standards. You will be working with teaching and learning staff where you will provide practical training and instruction to students in practical subjects both on an individual and group basis.


Role and Responsibilities:
  1. To develop the skills of students within the area of the workshop.
  2. To administer and oversee skills training.
  3. To apply assessment procedures and methods using pre-prepared learning material.
  4. To prepare & set-up physical materials and equipment for workshop activities.
  5. To produce a preventative maintenance schedule and carry out such maintenance on all tools and workshop equipment.
  6. To order workshop equipment and materials in conjunction with the team.
  7. To maintain the workshop to current H&S standards.
  8. To attend team meetings.
  9. To assist in developing this area of work.
  10. To ensure all students are aware of the Health & Safety Guidelines in the workshop.
  11. To ensure student tracking is kept up to date.
  12. Monitor and report on student progress.

The Candidate:

We are wanting to speak to candidates who hold a level 3 or equivalent qualification in an automotive discipline (NVQ or City and Guilds). Current experience of working in the industry is a must as your practical experience will be called upon when helping in class. Any previous training experience would be advantageous for the role, particularly if this has been in an FE setting, or at a private training provider.


You must be well organised, an excellent communicator, and have the ability to motivate others.
