What’s the role?
We’re committed to ensuring that all children and young people have equal access to a wide range of meaningful education experiences, tailored to their individual needs. In this role, you will be part of a team supporting the health and wellbeing of all children and young people to make sure we get it right for every child in North Lanarkshire. During this 12-month modern apprenticeship, you will gain experience of working with children and young people with additional support needs. You will work in any one of our primary, secondary or Additional Support Need schools supporting children and young people to have an inclusive school experience and reach their full potential. You will undertake an SCQF Level 7 in Social Services: Children & Young People. You will develop working knowledge on how to support children and young people from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of needs and gain practical experience of how to support personal care needs.
You will be supported by our Early Careers Supervisors, a dedicated workplace supervisor, and your NLC colleagues who you will be working with during your placement, as well as the support you will receive from your college assessors.
What do I need?
You don’t need to have any previous experience although you should have English and at least three other National 5 level qualifications at a Band A - C. Candidates who have successfully completed a relevant Foundation Apprenticeship will also be considered. We do look for you to have a passion about working with children and young people, helping them to learn and develop and making sure their care needs are met. We look for Apprentices who can help us deliver our exciting ambition and plans for North Lanarkshire. During the selection process, we will look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you will need to be successful; ambition, determination, adaptability, personality, ownership, be pro-active and show willingness to learn.
In accordance with Government Guidelines, you will need to be aged 16-24 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship) or if you are disabled or care experienced, you will need to be aged between 16-29 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship).
This role requires Protection of Vulnerable Group (PVG) Membership in relation to working with children.
These posts are temporary until August 2026.
