Role

As A Mobile Building Services Engineer at Avrenim, the post holder will be required to travel around the northwest region completing planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs as scheduled by the Avrenim Help Desk coordinators and recorded on a PDA.

Avrenim Facilities Management holds maintenance contracts for a number of large and small buildings within the northwest region, including NHS facilities. The successful candidate will be required to travel to these buildings in a vehicle provided by Avrenim to complete a preprogrammed maintenance schedule and on an ad hoc basis to respond to reactive repairs.

This role requires that the candidate be part of an on-call rota to attend emergency call-outs outside of normal working hours; we anticipate that this could be 1 week in 3.

Key Responsibilities

Duties:

  1. Electrical System Maintenance:
    1. Perform regular inspection, servicing, and maintenance of electrical systems, including lighting, power supplies, fire alarms, security systems, and electrical panels.
    2. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve electrical issues across building infrastructure.
    3. Ensure all electrical installations and systems comply with local electrical codes and health and safety regulations.
  2. Repairs and Fault Finding:
    1. Respond to electrical faults and breakdowns within the building, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
    2. Replace or repair faulty wiring, switches, sockets, circuit breakers, and lighting systems.
    3. Utilize test equipment to diagnose faults and verify that electrical systems are functioning safely and efficiently.
  3. Preventive Maintenance:
    1. Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all electrical systems and equipment.
    2. Conduct routine checks to ensure all equipment is operational, efficient, and safe.
    3. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
  4. Installation and Upgrades:
    1. Install new electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and power distribution in both new and existing buildings.
    2. Assist in the upgrade or modification of electrical systems as needed, ensuring compliance with energy-saving standards and building regulations.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    1. Adhere to all company safety procedures and industry regulations, including health and safety, electrical safety, and environmental standards.
    2. Participate in risk assessments and report any potential electrical hazards or safety issues to management.
    3. Ensure that all electrical equipment is properly maintained to prevent accidents and downtime.
  6. Team Collaboration and Communication:
    1. Work closely with other maintenance staff, contractors, and building management teams to ensure the smooth running of building services.
    2. Communicate effectively with supervisors and report on the status of electrical systems and tasks.
  7. Emergency Response:
    1. Provide emergency support for electrical failures and outages.
    2. Be available for on-call duties or after-hours work if required.

Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Qualifications:
    1. NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
    2. 17th or 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
    3. City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection and Testing) or equivalent is highly desirable.
    4. Valid Electrical or Building Services Technician certifications.
  2. Experience:
    1. Proven experience as a maintenance electrician, ideally within a building services environment.
    2. Strong background in electrical systems within commercial or residential buildings.
  3. Technical Skills:
    1. In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and fault-finding techniques.
    2. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
    3. Familiarity with electrical test equipment and diagnostics.
  4. Personal Attributes:
    1. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
    2. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    4. High level of initiative and proactive approach to maintenance.
