The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for you to join our Maternity Department as a Band 5 rotational Midwife. The trust provides maternity services for the City of Leeds and beyond - an area with a widely diverse demographic and population.

Main duties of the job


  1. Maintain a high standard of women-centred care in accordance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust guidelines and policies.
  2. Act as a referral agent and co-ordinator of care provision.
  3. Establish effective multi-agency collaboration across the primary/secondary interface to meet the needs of the patients.
  4. Act as a role model for the development of clinical skills and knowledge within the department team.
  5. Maintain a safe working environment.
  6. Support the Senior Midwife in setting and monitoring standards and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including national standards.
  7. Promote evidence-based practice.
  8. Participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice in the interests of promoting quality care.
  9. Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of midwifery care for women and their babies, ensuring written records are kept to NMC standards.

Leeds Teaching Hospital Maternity Services support the birth of approximately 9000 babies per year. We are a tertiary unit with the largest Fetal Medicine Unit in the North. We also have a Quaternary Paediatric and Cardiac Surgery unit, the largest Congenital Cardiac Service in the North of England, and we are specialists in Prematurity Prevention for Y& H.

JOB PURPOSE


To provide midwifery care in whichever setting the woman or baby requires care. This will include hospital, health centres, children's centres, and women's homes. To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care in the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. To carry out all relevant forms of care with minimal supervision.


To regularly take charge of the ward in the absence of the Senior Midwife (Sister). To participate in the in-service training and preceptorship/mentorship of junior staff, post-basic learners, and students.

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Registered Midwife

Desirable

  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for post

  • Good written and verbal skills.
