Job summary
This is our first Mental Health Division AHP Therapies Lead, so an exciting opportunity to create a community of AHP therapists, and to actively participate in the MH Division multi-disciplinary clinical leadership team. The division is on a mission to provide recovery-promoting, trauma-informed and autism-affirming services to our 0-25 children and young people and their families. Main duties of the job
This post will support the Divisional Leadership team and Trust Head of Therapies in the delivery of key projects to enable us to develop and transform our services. The postholder will be at the forefront of strengthening the profile and contribution of our AHP therapies workforce to the mission of making a positive difference to the quality of life of the children, young people and families of Birmingham, experiencing mental health challenges. We are looking for a forward-thinking, innovative individual with a track record of delivering service improvement and transformation, with a sharp focus on excellence in patient care and recovery.

- Responsibility for providing strategic, professional, and operational leadership to AHP therapies staff
- Co-creating a compelling vision and strategy for the future of the service working in partnership with other MH Division Professional Leads, MH Clinical Group and pathway Leads, other operational and corporate leads across the Division
- Carrying a small clinical caseload
- Being accountable for delivering a MH AHP service that has the right number of staff with the right level of knowledge, skill, and expertise to support the delivery of services in the most effective and efficient way
Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy OR Occupational Therapy
- Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT) OR Royal College of Occupational Therapy and The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Masters degree or training to an equivalent level in Leadership and / or management
Knowledge & Nature of Experience Essential
- Proven leadership and operational management experience
- Extensive post registration mental health clinical experience relevant to post
- Experience of managing a service that has included multidisciplinary working, business planning, service improvement and change management.
- An excellent knowledge of the professional agenda and national strategies for Allied Health Professionals.
Desirable
- Experience of managing and leading within a mental health NHS Organisation
Analytical and Judgement Skills Essential
- Evidence of working with data to analyse, interpret and present complex service-related information in appropriate forms.
Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge Essential
- Proven ability to propose and lead changes in policies / procedures that positively impact MH AHP services
Desirable
- Experience of financial control and budget management
- Managing programmes of organisational change that have led to tangible improvements
Personal Skills/Abilities and Attributes Essential
- Ability to build purposeful working relationships that secure the trust and confidence of key stakeholders, colleagues, and service users.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to receive and present data that is complex, sensitive, or contentious to large groups
