Mental Health Practitioner – Learning Disability

37.5hrs per week

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary CAMHS team in Liverpool.

They will work to engage children and young people with a significant learning disability and their families in the therapeutic process, supporting the assessment and implementation of complex mental health interventions under the supervision of an experienced CAMHS clinician and completing structured behavioral assessments to support the implementation of PBS plans.

The post holder will be expected to liaise with external agencies including health, SEN schools, education, social care, and the voluntary sector, acting as a named key worker to children, young people, and families accessing Alder Hey CAMHS services. Under supervision, the post holder will perform effective and evaluated assessments in line with their own knowledge base and the trust's policies and procedures.

They will also be responsible for enabling effective and meaningful service user participation in the design and delivery of our services through individual and group engagement, facilitation of events/focus groups, and supporting the wider CAMHS participation agenda and that of Alder Hey Children’s NHS FT.

The post holder will have the ability to self-reflect and be aware of working within their job remit. They will attend team meetings, regular supervision, and will be willing to joint work cases with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job:

• To work directly with children and young people with a significant learning disability and their families as directed by senior clinicians.
• To maintain patient records (including care plans and risk assessments) in line with trust policy.
• To escalate any risk or safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and other relevant agencies in line with trust policy.
• To work in the community, including home visits and through agreed activities to positively improve a young person's social and emotional development, reduce behaviours of concern, and increase quality of life.
• To work flexibly in order to maximise opportunities for engagement of children, young people, and families.
• To develop positive relationships with children, young people, and families which actively supports their engagement.
• To identify appropriate activities for young people and develop a local knowledge of youth groups and alternative voluntary projects young people can link with.

This is an exciting opportunity for a mental health engagement practitioner to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The mental health engagement practitioner will be a member of the specialist, multi-disciplinary service and will be supported through supervision by a senior member of the team on a regular basis. The post holder will provide a range of appropriate, evidence-based clinical interventions informed by assessed individual need.
