The Inpatient Pharmacy at the Royal Berkshire Hospital has the opportunity for experienced Pharmacy Assistants/Dispensers to join our pharmacy team to provide a ward-based medicines management service, supporting pharmacists, medicines management technicians and the wider multidisciplinary team. Candidates must possess or be working towards NVQ Level 2 qualification or show willingness to complete training. We are looking for hard working and highly motivated individuals to join our innovative team.

Here in Pharmacy, we strive to deliver an efficient, safe and resourceful service to our patients. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their skills in many aspects of the Pharmacy service, including checking Patient Own Drugs, ward top ups and stock management, dispensing specialised medicines, liaising with a range of different healthcare professionals and assisting the Monitored Dosage System (MDS) team.

Main duties of the job

As a Medicines Management Assistant you will assist in the delivery of high-quality ward based pharmacy services under the supervision of a pharmacist or Medicines Management Technician. In addition, you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team, undertaking Patient Own Drug (POD) checks, contributing toward the management of stock, including returns. Other responsibilities include stocklist reviews, prompt processing of discharge medicines and involvement in medicine shortages and recalls.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • GCSEs at grade A* - C (4-9) (or equivalent) in Maths, English Language and 2 Science subjects (A)
  • NVQ and BTEC Level 2 in Pharmacy Services OR willing to work towards qualification (A)

Experience

  • Pharmacy Experience - hospital or community
  • Good communication - written and oral
  • JAC experience
  • Stock Control Experience
