Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Medical Underwriter to help us deliver an outstanding service for our customers. Experience in medical underwriting, with a recognised underwriting authority. Ideally within Life, Income Protection and Critical illness.

What You'll Do

  1. To provide fair and balanced underwriting decisions within own authority limits assessing initial applications and additional medical evidence
  2. Ability to manage the end to end customer journey, from application stage through to decision
  3. Familiar with handling more complex cases and referrals whilst supporting less experienced team members
  4. As well as a strong technical background, you will also be able to demonstrate stakeholder management and communication skills, liaising with customer services, sales, reinsurance partners and medical officers
  5. Proactive approach to your own learning and development is expected to ensure that Underwriting practices and skills are continually improved.

Who You Are

  1. Experience of working within a Medical Underwriting Team and making an accurate assessment of medical evidence gathered
  2. Able to underwrite for multiple Protection product lines.
  3. Understanding of underwriting manuals and processes.
  4. Understanding of the Protection products which require underwriting input.
  5. Maintains underwriting knowledge with industry and market changes.
  6. Inquisitive and Customer centric approach with an ability to think outside of the norm and challenge existing processes.
  7. Ability to communicate with all types of customers and contribute to a team delivering service excellence.
  8. Able to work to deadlines and manage own workload, prioritising cases when required
  9. GR1 or other industry recognised qualification (desired)
