Job Summary

  • A Medical Receptionist required. Mon to Fri. Will be required to do one Saturday in the month 10am to 14.30pm
  • Offer general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the Practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the Practice team
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies

Main duties of the job

Training will be provided.

  • To work in accordance with written protocols
  • Filing post in medical records
  • Photocopy as requested
  • Ensure courier takes all documentation and samples at the appropriate time
  • Open and distribute incoming mail
  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients, care homes, and any other visitors to the practice
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
  • Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary
  • Process appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required.
  • Open & close the practice as per protocol

About us

We are a 10,000 patient list size purpose-built practice in South East London Zone 3 with high QOF achievement and good CQC banding, offering in-house Dermatology, diabetes, Care of the elderly and minor surgery services as well as teaching. You will be well supported by a highly-skilled team of reception, admin, nurses, HCAs, management and not to mention experienced local Doctors. Training opportunities and special interests development will be encouraged.

Requirements Of The Post

  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
  • An ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness, common sense, and local knowledge to respond to patients' enquiries and requests.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • To be courteous and helpful to the patients at all times.

Team Responsibilities

  • Maintain open and effective communication with colleagues
  • Ensure effective teamwork: familiarity with colleagues' duties and responsibilities, offer support and help in order to maintain the smooth running of the Practice
  • Open up and secure the premises at the start and end of a day when required to.
  • Support the running of the branch in any duty required when necessary.

Health & Safety

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others' health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, the practice Health & Safety Manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures.

This Will Include

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
  • Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
  • Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder's role
  • Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)
  • Reporting potential risks identified
