Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a medical receptionist to join our friendly team.

10 hrs p/w per week, to be worked over 2 days - Thursday 8:30am-1:30pm and Friday 8:30am-1:30pm.

We are a well-organised practice in Rastrick, Brighouse, who strive to consistently provide high quality care to all our patients. Our growing list size currently stands at over 5000 patients.

Main duties of the job

Duties include greeting patients and answering the telephone along with a wide variety of administrative duties. Basic computer skills are essential; however, NHS General Practice experience, along with knowledge of SystmOne, is desirable but not essential.

Flexibility to cover holidays and sickness is essential.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

Receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.

Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Job Responsibilities:

Administration
  • To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.
  • To work in accordance with written protocols.
  • Fax and photocopy as requested.
  • Allocated administrative duties.
Reception
  • Receiving patients consulting with members of the Practice team.
  • Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patients and checking names and addresses.
  • Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary.
Appointments
  • Process appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
  • Deal with visit requests.
Computer
  • Registrations of new patients computer data entry and medical records.
  • Process patients' change of address computer data and medical records (have knowledge of Practice area).
  • Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with Practice guidelines.
  • Scan letters into patient medical records as required.
  • Action reception tasks as necessary.
Telephone
  • Have working knowledge of the telephone system, during and after hours.
Other Tasks
  • Clear rooms after surgeries.
  • Ensure building security; have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.
  • Make coffee for doctors and colleagues.
  • Any other tasks allocated by manager or doctors.
  • Chaperone for clinicians if required.
  • Complete training relevant to role as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Good general education with good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Previous experience working with computers.
  • Experience as a Medical Receptionist in a GP surgery.
  • Previous experience of customer care or dealing with members of the public in a frontline role.

£12.21 to £12.30 an hour depending on experience.
