Job description

We require a conscientious and enthusiastic individual to join the laboratory team in providing Blood Science services at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Working in different areas within Blood Sciences, duties will include:

  1. Collecting, checking and labelling of specimens, filing, and data input duties.
  2. Following Standard Operating Procedures and participating in their regular review and update.
  3. Preparing, storing and using reagents and consumables in a manner suitable for patient investigations, being aware of COSHH.
  4. Reporting quality control procedures indicating loss of performance.
  5. Reporting when there is a situation which may cause a service failure.
  6. Being conversant with the safe methods of handling and using toxic, carcinogenic, harmful and flammable substances.
  7. Receiving and checking the integrity of requests and samples based on the Minimum Identification Criteria required by the laboratory.
  8. Checking the correct samples have been received.
  9. Barcoding samples and forms and distributing samples.
