An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Device Safety Lead (MDSL) to join the Clinical Engineering Department at the Royal Berkshire NHSFT.
You will be supporting the Trust Medical Devices Safety Officer (MDSO) by leading the investigations of medical device related incidents, capturing and analysing the data to identify causes, trends, outcomes and learning.
In addition, the MDSL will be responsible for actioning the Trust’s response to MHRA medical devices safety alerts and manufacturer field safety notices by identifying those clinical areas across the Organisation affected by the alerts, distributing the safety information and actions required, and following up to confirm actions have been completed to the required standards and within the required timeframe.
You will champion the wider programme of medical devices safety improvement across the Organisation, supporting the effective adoption and clinical use of medical devices.
You will be someone who enjoys working in a busy environment and be comfortable prioritising and managing a varied workload. You will be confident in managing change, have excellent communication skills, be pro-active, highly organised and pay attention to detail.
A willingness to learn and to share your learning is essential.
We are especially looking for candidates with strong communication and analytical skills, who are able to apply these in various contexts, to draw insights from data.
The Medical Devices Safety Lead will act as a source of expertise for medical device technologies and applications used across the Organisation.
The postholder will strive to achieve significant and systemic changes in culture and practices in medical devices operation, use and management and perform a critical role in supporting and furthering best practices for the benefit and safety of patients and healthcare staff.
You will take the lead on investigating medical device related incidents to determine causal and contributory factors, support learning and identify recommendations to prevent recurrence.
In addition, the postholder will play a key role in the management of medical device safety alerts including their assessment, dissemination, follow-up of required actions arising and reporting outcomes and learning.
This is a senior role with strategic and operational responsibilities in the Trust’s medical device safety agenda.
The role requires the post holder to work autonomously and have well-developed leadership, communication, influence and change management skills and the ability to influence medical device users, clinical/non-clinical staff and managers throughout the Trust.
You should have experience of working with medical devices and with a robust understanding of the responsibilities and factors involved in safe management of devices by the users.
