Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Device Safety Officer to work closely with Corporate Nursing, Medical Engineering, and the Divisional teams to provide expert advice and support in relation to the Trust processes, policies, competencies, and training for Medical Devices. Applications are welcome from registered nursing, midwifery, and allied health professional staff in addition to those that have come through other roles.


The MDSO is a key role in promoting and improving the safe use of medical devices in the Trust, including medical device training competence and reporting, as well as learning from medical device-related incidents. This role is a fixed-term consultation role to provide expert advice in relation to the Trust processes, policies, competencies, and training for Medical Devices.

Job responsibilities


  • Provide authoritative and reliable expert advice in supporting healthcare staff in the safe use of medical devices.
  • Provide authoritative and reliable expert advice in supporting the Trust in relation to Trust policy and process for Medical devices.

Person Specification


Essential

  • Possess suitable qualifications and/or experience to provide professional advice relating to medical device management, legislation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Sound knowledge of statutory, regulatory and governance obligations relating to medical equipment management, acquisition, usage, and upkeep.
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessments on medical devices and have the ability to find novel solutions to minimise risk where appropriate.
  • Leadership skills to manage staff working with a wide range of medical equipment.
  • Awareness of NHS and medical devices requirements.
  • Ability to organise workload/prioritise according to deadlines.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS risk management agenda.
