Mechanical Project Engineer – Hinkley Point C

Location: Bristol (initially) & Hinkley Point C (from late 2025/early 2026)

Working Pattern: 9-day fortnight, flexible working arrangements

Salary: Competitive + Car Allowance + Accommodation & Travel

Are you an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer looking to be part of one of the UK's most significant nuclear projects? Join us at Hinkley Point C, where you will play a critical role in delivering world-class engineering solutions that ensure compliance with safety, quality, and budget requirements.

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for driving successful project delivery, coordinating technical solutions, and ensuring adherence to nuclear safety standards. Your expertise in mechanical engineering, project coordination, and stakeholder management will be pivotal in the execution of this large-scale project.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Delivery & Coordination
    Lead contract or package activities to meet business and technical goals.
    Develop and execute project plans in alignment with the overall Programme Execution Plan (PEP).
    Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders to ensure project success.
    Monitor project milestones, budgets, and risks, ensuring proactive resolution of issues.
    Drive a culture of continuous improvement through lessons-learned initiatives.
  2. Technical & Engineering Excellence
    Provide engineering leadership and supervise project-related operations.
    Optimise project execution through technical strategies and value engineering.
    Interpret designs, drawings, and specifications, ensuring full compliance.
    Oversee major material procurement schedules for timely and cost-effective delivery.
  3. Health, Safety & Compliance
    Ensure full compliance with industry standards, nuclear safety regulations, and site licence conditions.
    Act as a safety leader, enforcing CDM Regulations and nuclear safety best practices.
    Conduct health & safety audits, toolbox talks, and site inspections to uphold a zero-incident culture.
    Work closely with the QA team to maintain high-quality standards and audit compliance.
  4. Stakeholder & Supplier Management
    Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, consultants, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
    Support the Senior Project Manager in securing future work and maintaining client satisfaction.
    Collaborate with Trade Unions and IR managers in a unionised environment.
    Work alongside suppliers to ensure Qualified Equipment (EQ) products and services meet nuclear safety standards.
  5. Commercial & Financial Oversight
    Monitor project performance, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
    Assist in preparing financial reports, project accounts, and final accounts.
    Manage subcontract orders and approve major material procurement.
    Conduct cost-benefit analysis and negotiate contract variations as needed.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  1. ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering (Piped Systems, HVAC, Drainage, Heating & Cooling) – working towards HNC.
  2. Strong knowledge of nuclear installation standards and safety-critical systems.
  3. Proven experience delivering projects in complex, regulated environments (e.g., nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemical).
  4. Ability to interpret and manage designs, specifications, and technical documentation.
  5. Expertise in construction, commissioning, and handover of mechanical/HVAC systems.

Additional Qualifications & Desirable Experience:
  1. Project Management certifications (e.g., APM PMQ, PRINCE2).
  2. Experience working in a unionised environment, coordinating with IR managers & Trade Unions.
  3. Familiarity with Qualified Equipment (EQ) processes and nuclear-grade materials.
  4. Knowledge of QA compliance, audits, and regulatory approvals.
  5. Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and construction safety.
