Location: We are currently looking to recruit Mechanical Fitters to work within our maintenance department of our Process & Pumping business area, at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you? We are looking to recruit across the Yorkshire region; this is a mobile worker, however, your home location will determine the area of Yorkshire that you will be covering.
Work type: Permanent. You'll be working 37 hours per week. Out of hours, weekend working, and bank holidays will be worked as part of a structured stand-by rota. Once fully trained, you will be assessed for working on your own and you will be required to participate in an out of hours standby rota which will include evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts (which will be no more than 1 week in every 4).

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Water's mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations. Mobile working as part of a Maintenance Team to deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance. Responding to emergency calls both in and out of hours (on call-out rota). Driving to deliver improved asset reliability through effective decision making.
Where you fit in:
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be required to work unsupervised in remote geographic locations and be accountable for the completion of planned and reactive mechanical tasks within agreed timescales, quality, and cost parameters. Candidates will be expected to manage and prioritise your own workload effectively and to build and maintain relationships with operational customers, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners. Adhering to the Health and Safety policy and standards identifying hazards, providing mitigation, and reporting onto the company hazard database to ensure the cause of the hazard is removed.
You will be required to supervise approved Contract Partners, providing risk assessments and method statements where permit to work is required for a given task. You will also be required to use a Toughbook and/or an iPad to capture all work activity and job status in line with workflow processes. Assist in the development and training of apprentices as well as less experienced members of the team, identifying ways to improve the value and service delivered by the Maintenance Function. Installation & commissioning of new plant and equipment to relevant standards is essential. Diagnosing and repairing faults on systems and plant.
You will pro-actively identify and report follow-on work or areas for enhancement. You will conduct your own risk assessments and create appropriate method statements when required to safely carry out maintenance activities. The successful candidate will have the ability to specify parts and equipment required for procurement as part of day-to-day role.

Ideally, you will have previous experience gained as a Mechanical Fitter within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors. Experience within a mechanical-based environment or site-based fault diagnosis and repair on complex processes and equipment.
As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces; any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.

If successful for the role, you will be required to undergo pre-employment checks that will include a Basic Disclosure Check, carried out through a Third-Party Company, prior to commencing employment.
