Job description

Job Title: Raft Fitter
Job Location: Burton upon Trent
Shifts: Days only
Salary: DOE
Hours per Week: 44 (7am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, 7am to 1pm on Friday)
Duration: Contract to start
Start Date: Immediate


Client Summary:

Leading manufacturer and front line supplier of powertrain products based in the UK and Ireland. Areas of expertise include Engine Overhaul, Final Drive Overhaul, and locomotive refurbishment.


Position Summary:

Stripping rafts and building transmissions within the Rail industry. You will be working in teams to breakdown mechanical systems on to locomotive rafts and rebuild. Roles can include:

  1. Engine strip down or strip down of components and rebuild
  2. Fitting newly refurbished engines back onto the rafts including all components that service and help the running of the engine, such as radiators, pumps, tanks, pipe work, electrical looms, and more
  3. Understanding vehicle mechanical interfaces and repairs of vehicle components
  4. Installing/repairing hydraulic systems
  5. Overhauling raft components
  6. Understanding schematic drawings
  7. Undertaking training as required
  8. Working within a realistic timeframe
  9. Mentoring trainees/apprentices when applicable
  10. Ensuring that waste is disposed of in the correct manner

Person Profile/Experience:

A strong mechanical background is required. Ideal candidates will come from HGV, large engines, or rolling stock assembly backgrounds. Understanding of engines, hydraulics, and pneumatics in plant or heavy goods is ideal. A good attitude and willingness to work flexibly (overtime available) are essential.


Qualifications:

Relevant engineering qualifications are preferred but not necessary for an experienced person.
