Mechanical Exam Technician (Locomotives)

Location:

Loughborough, Leicestershire

Salary:

£40-45k per annum inc shift allowance and O/T

Shifts:

Rotating - Mornings, Afternoons, and Nights

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Exam Technician to join our team, maintaining and inspecting locomotives and rolling stock. You will be responsible for conducting scheduled examinations, carrying out essential maintenance, and ensuring all vehicles are in top operational condition.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct A, B, C, and D exams on locomotives and rolling stock vehicles.
  2. Perform brake tests to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  3. Complete fuel point duties, including refuelling, fluid level checks, and routine servicing.
  4. Carry out preparation and pre-service checks on locomotives before they enter service.
  5. Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults efficiently.
  6. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with railway standards and safety regulations.
  7. Accurately record maintenance activities and report defects or necessary repairs.
  8. Work collaboratively with other technicians and engineering teams.
Requirements:
  1. Previous experience in locomotive or rolling stock maintenance is highly desirable.
  2. Mechanical engineering or relevant technical qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  3. Strong understanding of rail industry safety regulations and maintenance procedures.
  4. Ability to work rotating shifts, including mornings, afternoons, and nights.
  5. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  6. Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
