Mechanical Engineering Co-op

Job Description

Salary: $23-$30 per hour

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, testing, documentation, and production of high-performance Li-ion cells and systems for internal and customer-driven development programs in the USA. The ideal candidate will have hands-on mechanical experience with exposure to small scale production and machining. You will work closely with Senior Engineers and Scientists to increase testing capability and production of cells for research and development.

Primary Responsibilities

• Aid in the design, procurement and/or fabrication of testing and production equipment such as tools or fixtures for a battery lab environment.
• Support process and production team through equipment operation, troubleshooting, modification, and product inspection.
• Support mechanical team through design, modeling and testing.
• Develop engineering drawings, technical guidelines and documentation, as required.
• Interface with a variety of equipment including pneumatic, electronic, mechanical, vacuum and heating/cooling systems.
• Utilize various methods to generate prototypes including hand tools and shop tools, such as band saws, drill presses, bench grinders, and 3D printers.
• Operate safely within lab and production shop settings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accomplish goals.
• Adapt to rapidly changing priorities and project scopes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Process engineering, or related field with relevant completed coursework.
• Experience with 3D modeling software, preferably Solidworks.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills; capability to present technical information to internal and external teams of different backgrounds.
• Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems.
• Ability to work 40 hrs per week in-person in Bedford, MA.

Qualifications

• Previous co-op or experience in a related field.
• Technical knowledge of lithium-ion battery manufacturing and testing.
• Proficiency in Solidworks.
• Experience with machining/generating prototypes.
• Experience with GD&T.
• Experience operating in production settings.
• Experience working in a Dry Room.
