Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer I to join the Data Center Power & Control Division, Starline Team in Reading, UK. The Mechanical Engineer I provides engineering support for the commercialization, application, and customization of all Starline products. Works under clearly defined guidelines and under close supervision of manager and other engineers.

What Will You Do?

  • Conceptualize and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Test (DFT) / Assembly (DFA) and Full Turnkey solutions.
  • Support the engineering team tasked with the commercialization and launch of Starline-designed products.
  • Perform mechanical engineering design tasks in support of customer-specific customizations of Starline products.
  • Assist in creating technical documentation such as drawings, O&M Manuals, installation instructions, work instructions, and product catalogs.
  • Support the integration of 3rd-party products with Starline’s product offerings.
  • Conduct testing required, under supervision, verifying product performance, system integration, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to assure product manufacturability.
  • Assist in supporting improvements to Starline’s engineering information systems to ensure high-quality engineering information is provided to production and other customers of this information.
  • Support the automation of design tasks.
  • Jobsite support.
  • Collaboration with certification laboratories such as UL, CSA, and Intertek (ETL) as well as various international agencies. Provide lab testing support.
  • Participate in team-based initiatives within Starline.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Education:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Relevant experience in the mechanical engineering field, either in a professional or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with low voltage power distribution equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards a plus.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%.
  • Relevant internship/co-op experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience using AutoCAD, Inventor and/or the VAULT.
  • Experience with an ERP system preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with principles and processes for providing customer satisfaction including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Familiarity with project management processes and principles.

Personal Qualities/Behaviors:

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
