Mechanical Engineer – Built Environment Design Consultancy

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

We are working in partnership with a respected multi-sector design consultancy as they look to strengthen their mechanical building services team with the addition of a Mechanical Engineer in their London office. With a strong reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across the built environment, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking practice during an exciting period of growth.

This position is ideal for an engineer who’s eager to work across a wide spectrum of project types and RIBA stages, from early-stage design through to technical delivery. Whether it’s new builds or complex refurbishments, you’ll be supported by a team that prioritises knowledge sharing, structured development, and technical excellence.

What You'll Be Doing

1. Working within a collaborative design team to develop engineering solutions and technical documentation including specifications, reports, and detailed designs.
2. Delivering robust, compliant system designs using industry-standard software including CAD and Revit.
3. Carrying out site-based activities such as surveys, inspections, and data collection to inform and refine the design process.
4. Preparing calculations and documentation to demonstrate compliance with both client requirements and relevant legislation.
5. Coordinating with other design professionals and contributing to the integration of services across projects.
6. Attending meetings and design workshops, sharing insights and helping drive project delivery.
7. Ensuring all solutions are aligned with current regulations, H&S standards, and best practice guidance.

What They’re Looking For

1. Experience in mechanical design for building services, with solid involvement across key RIBA design stages.
2. Knowledge of BSRIA BG6 and other relevant industry frameworks.
3. A qualification in Building Services Engineering (minimum HNC/HND, ideally degree-level).
4. Proficiency in Revit is preferred; familiarity with IES or similar simulation tools would be a plus.
5. Strong communication skills, with the confidence to contribute to multidisciplinary teams.
6. Ambition to continue your professional development; support is available for chartership routes (EngTech, IEng, or CEng).
